Japanese stocks fell on the Tokyo Stock Exchange

Japanese stocks fell on the Tokyo Stock Exchange on Friday, in line with the record drop in European and US stocks on Thursday.

The Nikkei benchmark <.N225> was down 0.26% to 21,700.20. TOPIX <.TOPX> in general was down 0.37% to 1,572.09.

The US stock market fell on Thursday after records after a wave of disappointing quarterly results from Ford Motor and other companies.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 128.92 points, or 0.47%, to 27,141.05, the Standard & Poor's 500 Index lost 15.87 points, or 0.53%, to 3003.69 and the Nasdaq composite index at 8238.54.

European stock markets fell sharply after the ECB hinted at a future easing of monetary policy, disappointing investors who wanted more clarity on its measures to stimulate the slowdown in the economy.

The European Stoxx 600 index has dropped more than 0.5%.
