Turkish club Besiktas announced on Thursday that it was going to loan Bundesliga champion Shinji Kagawa on loan until the end of the season.
On the last day of the European club's winter transfer period, the club announced that the former Manchester United player, aged 29, would be "part of our team on loan until the end of the season".
The midfielder had already undergone a medical examination after arriving in Istanbul, Turkey, at the final conclusion of the contract.
Turkish media reported Monday that the loan agreement included the possibility of hiring the player permanently, but the club's statement did not mention it.
Kagawa helped Dortmund win two Bundesliga titles in Germany in 2012, before joining United for two years and returning to his club. The player has been relegated to the team this season under the orders of Swiss coach Lucien Favre.
Dortmund dominate the Bundesliga this season with 48 points after 19 games, six points behind Bayern Munich, second.
