The 15 members of the Security Council hoped to form "a swift" Lebanese government at a closed meeting on Monday, during which they also discussed the renewal of the peacekeeping mission in the country in August.
"The Council hopes to quickly form a new national unity government in Lebanon and looks forward to a new mandate for the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL)," said Swedish Ambbadador Olof Scog at the head of the Council.
Asked whether the renewal of UNIFIL's mission would be purely technical or whether there would be amendments to his work, Skog said he was not expecting "major changes" .
