Lebanon presents its first report on the Sustainable Development Goals in New York

Lebanon will present its first voluntary national review of the 2030 Agenda and Sustainable Development Goals on Wednesday, July 18, from 9 am to 2 pm in New York, at the Ministerial Meeting of the High Level Forum on Sustainable Development.

The forum will be held in New York from 9 to 18 October under the theme "Transforming Sustainable and Flexible Communities", which aims to review successes, discuss challenges and mobilize efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. As every year, a specific set of goals will be reviewed that will include goals 6, 7, 11, 12 and 15, in addition to goal 17, which is reviewed annually. 47 countries around the world, including Lebanon, will voluntarily report on their progress in implementing these goals.

The Lebanese government has taken important steps to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and has sent a positive signal on Lebanon's commitment and determination to implement the 2030 Agenda. As a result, the Government has created in June 2017 a national committee of all ministries and public institutions. Representatives of civil society and the private sector.

The United Nations in Lebanon helped the Lebanese government organize a workshop for the Lebanese National Commission on Sustainable Development Goals on December 7, 2017. It was then inaugurated by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Health , Ghbadan Hasbani Tania Shabouisat Acting. The purpose of the workshop was to discuss key themes related to the Sustainable Development Goals. The workshop also focused on the subsequent steps of the National Committee to fulfill Lebanon's commitment to submit its first national voluntary report to the High Level Political Forum.

The workshop was followed by preliminary workshops with representatives of the private sector and civil society. With support from the United Nations, civil society representatives held additional sub-regional discussions to ensure greater participation and participation.
