Barcelona's Lionel Messi has been named the best player in the fifth group stage of the 2018/2018 Champions League.

The European Football Confederation (UEFA) announced on Monday that Lionel Messi won the trophy after leading Barcelona to a 2-1 victory over PSV Eindhoven on Wednesday.

Messi, 31, scored Barcelona's first goal and defender Gerard Pique's second goal.

Barcelona finished first in Group B after scoring its fourth victory against a 13-point draw, including seven points for Tottenham and Inter Milan respectively in second and third place.

Barcelona will host Tottenham Hotspur on Dec. 11 in the sixth round, with the Catalans winning 4-2 in the first leg at Wembley in London.

Messi has scored 6 goals this season in the Champions League, leading the scoring charts with Bayern Munich's Robert Levandowski, Alvardo Bin Mohammed of Sarvina Zvezda and Dushan Tadic of Ajax.
