LONDON (Reuters) – Manchester City maintained its losing streak by beating Bournemouth 3-1 to take the lead in the Premier League, while United were attempting to draw a 2-2 draw at home against Southampton on Saturday.

The city is five points behind Liverpool, who will face Everton at Merseyside on Sunday after Tottenham Hotspur took on Arsenal, third in North London.

Crystal Palace won 2-0 at Burnley, ending eight games without a win. Leicester City, West Ham United, Brighton and Hove Albion won.

City played without Sergio Aguero, Kevin de Bruin and Riad Mehrez at the FA Stadium, but returned to Bournemouth 16 minutes later thanks to Bernardo Silva.

But the visitors made a draw just before halftime thanks to a header from English striker Klum Wilson.

Bournemouth's hopes faded as the defending champions scored again with Rahim Sterling and Elkay Gendogan.

"Bournemouth is a very good strong team forward, so we could not squeeze in. They played long balls and they were taller and stronger than us," said Lt. City coach, Pep Guardiola.

Guardiola has 16 points ahead of United, who has a bad season with Southampton at St Mary's Stadium.

Southampton striker Stewart Armstrong shot 13 minutes later against David De Chia and United's goalkeeper scored again after a superb free kick by Cedric Suarez.

Southampton missed two goals against Fulham last week and United quickly returned via Lukako after a pbad from Marcus Rushford.

The goal was the first for the Belgian striker with United in all competitions since mid-September, over a period of 981 minutes.

Andier Herrera equalized just before the end of the first period to bring United back into the match, but the match ended in a draw, a result that will not please the coaches of both teams.

"We played very well in the last 15 minutes of the first half," said United States coach Jose Mourinho at PT Sport. "High spirit, a good fight and a draw 2-2 at the end of the match, the players played a good example of a full-blown fight. "

"The positive examples include Marcos Rushford, Phil Jones and many respectful jersey and club players, not the expected result, but the performance has been positive."

Huddersfield looked poised for a 58-second home win against Brighton with a header from Mathias Jorgensen, who scored the fastest goal of the season.

But Huddersfield lost Steve Mony half an hour after being sent off for a violent offense and Brighton took advantage of his power play to score thanks to Shane Duffy and Florin Andoni.

He beat Huddersfield by defeating Burnley at Silverhurst Stadium to reduce pressure on manager Roy Hodgson.

James McCarthy and Andrews Townsend, with a goal in each half, were the first two goals of the opening game of the season. Burnley remained in the relegation zone after falling back to 18th place after Cardiff City beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 2 to 1 on Friday.

Leicester won its first league win since September with a 2-0 win over Watford.

Jamie Fardi opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 12th minute, before James Madison shook the goal with a superb shot and Leicester moved to eighth.

West Ham striker Javier Hernandez scored two goals and Felipe Anderson added another goal: beat London 3-0 at Newcastle United and stop Rafael Benitez's progress in recent weeks.
