Maradona joins Coulibaly against racism

MADRID (Reuters) – Argentine legend Maradona has confirmed his support for Senegalese defender Calido Coulibaly, who was the target of racist chants last week during clashes at Inter Milan in Calchio.

"I played for 7 years in Naples and I was also the victim of racist songs by some football fans," said Maradona, who defended Napoli and led the Serie A in 1987 and 1990.

"I feel that I come from Naples and that now I want to be with Coulibaly," said Maradona, who is currently training for the Spanish team. "I hope that there will be an incident. before the incident to permanently eradicate racism in football ".

The Senegalese international was subject to "screaming monkey" during his team's match against Inter last Wednesday at the 18th stage of the championship. Coulibaly was sent off about nine minutes after the match ended for two successive warnings, one for wrongdoing and the other for sarcasm.

The draw was in stalemate when Coulibaly was ruled out, before his team lost the game in the 90th minute with a penalty shot by Argentine Lautaro Martinez.

The incident sparked widespread criticism in Italy, especially as he witnessed the violence of fans off the pitch that led to the death of one of them.

Napoli coach Carlo Ancelotti said his team had repeatedly asked to stop the match without getting an answer.

"I am very disappointed with the defeat, especially the abandonment of my brothers (expulsion in the 81st minute), but I am proud of the color of my skin, French, Senegalese and Neapolitan", said Coulibaly.
