In Morocco, 306 doctors threatened to resign if their working conditions did not improve, bringing the total number of derogation requests to 1,300 across the country.
Despite efforts by the Ministry of Health to address the acute shortage of medical staff at the hospital level, medical graduates prefer private clinics or immigration abroad, which is groaning under the the weight of resignations and lack of staff.
The new resignations are concentrated in various cities in the south and center, including Rabat, Sale, Casablanca, Khenifra, Temara, Laayoune, Agadir, Guelmim and others, and they should increase in the coming days.
For his part, the head of the independent trade union of public-sector doctors, Al-Muntadhar Al-Alawi, said that "resignations are a legitimate protest of doctors for years," noting that "the next social situation will see individual resignations instead of the currently submitted collective, in response to the "Ministry of Health" threat.
Alawi called on the Ministry of Health to "respond to resignation requests from eligible doctors," stressing that "restoring confidence in the country's health system is linked to the degree of response to the legitimate demand file submitted by the health authorities. doctors for years ".
300 doctors resigned from the public sector at the Ministry of Health of Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima last April, while 50 doctors submitted a collective resignation to the Regional Directorate of Health of the Eastern Region in October 2018 and 30 doctors have submitted a collective resignation to the city of Ouarzazate.
