Dermatologist Outha Zeman Harms said that nail bites can cause inflammation of the nails, such as improper pruning or cracking of the skin around the fingers.

The inflammation around the nail affects the edge. The skin becomes swollen, red and painful. The Staphylococcus bacteria causes an abscess filled with pus, requiring prompt care to prevent the development of abscess.

In case of simple enough to treat inflammation, moisturize the edge of the nail with a cream rich in fat or petrolatum, and use a disinfectant after the release of pus, and in case of perspiration and finger pain, consult your doctor immediately.

In severe cases, treatment is performed with antifungal ointments or surgery if the nail is not treated by medical treatment or by abscess.

Severe inflammation must be treated quickly because the infection can spread to the bones.A part of the finger becomes necessary to prevent gangrene, a rare complication of inflammation around the nail.

To prevent inflammation, stop biting your nails and tearing the skin around your fingers. If small pieces of skin appear around the nail, it is best to remove them with scissors.
