New Twitter feature to follow Topics

Twitter has unveiled a new experience that allows users to track topics in the same way that users follow individual accounts while seeking to make their platform more user-friendly.

The personalization of interests will list the tweets in TimeLine as the main users, rather than in the Explorer tab of the site, according to Mashable.

Twitter can ask users to follow a specific topic, and then extract a set of related tweets about the subject, whether the user follows the accounts individually or not. Users can also choose to mute specific topics.

Initially, the function "Interests" will be tested only on the Android system and on topics related to the sport. When the feature is launched on a large scale, topics are coordinated and included by Twitter staff, rather than grouped automatically, which can amplify misinformation and false or harmful information.

The content will automatically be pulled, using machine learning, to group the tweets by subject, even if no specific word or label is used, which means that the requirement to use several tags to get the full conversation will end soon.
