2018 Nobel laureates James Allison and Japanese Tasco Hongo have expressed their expectations for future cancer treatments and their effectiveness in healing patients.
At a press conference, Allison and Hwang said that significant progress was expected in the treatment of cancer in the coming decades and stressed that complete eradication of the disease was difficult to predict for the moment but not impossible.
Allison said that very soon the world would be treated for certain types of cancer, and her colleague Hongo predicted that immunotherapy would eventually be used against most cancers in conjunction with chemotherapy.
The comments came during a press conference held just before they officially receive the Nobel Prize, worth 9 million crowns, or $ 999,000.
The Nobel Committee announced in October the winners of this award for their work in the field of immunotherapy, thus enabling them to activate the body's natural defense system against tumors.
