LONDON (Reuters) – Arsenal have signed Brazilian central defender David Luiz (Chelsea) on the final day of the transfer market.

The details of the deal were not disclosed, but the British media reported that the deal was worth about $ 9.7 million and that 32-year-old man had signed a contract to two years.

Luiz, the tenth Premier League player, joined Chelsea in 2011 from Benfica.

The player won the 2012 Champions League, the 2017 Premier League and the 2012 FA Cup and 2018, during his two forays with Chelsea.

The Brazilian, who also won the European Championships in 2013 and 2019, spent two years at Paris Saint-Germain, where he played under Arsenal coach, Unai Emery, after being entered the French club in 2014, before returning to Stamford Bridge.

"David has a lot of experience and I look forward to working with him again. He is a well known player and he will add even more to our defense," said Emery.

Arsenal, who finished fifth of last season and missed the Champions League playoffs for the third year in a row, entered the transfer market with defenders after the departure of Laurent Koscielny, Karl Jenkinson and Stefan Liechsteiner.
