"The Champions League looks like a Ferrari or a Porsche: you can not drive right away, you need training and testing, and everyone needs to understand how they are used," said the UEFA president Alexander Chivrin about the video technology of the European champions.
"We are ready to use the VAR sooner than expected, and we are confident that it will be useful for our competitions as it will bring valuable help to match officials and will reduce the number of incorrect decisions."
The video technology will be used in August, at the European Super Cup in 2019, between the Champions League and the European Champions League this season, he said.
