Scientists at the Feldman Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences in St. Petersburg have developed a tablet-based drug for the treatment of psychiatric illnesses, including schizophrenia and mania.

Elia Sokhanov, co-inventor of the new drug, explains that scientists have developed a substance that affects nerve communication.

"When the lab mice were injected with this drug, the TAAR1 receptors were activated in the central nervous system, which affected signal transmission between neurons in the brain," said Sukhanov.

Scientists say the pharmaceutical formula allows the production of tablets for the treatment of mental disorders and is a new way to treat schizophrenia, noting that drug test results on mice allow the drug to effectively treat mental illnesses , including obsessive-compulsive disorder.

It should be noted that schizophrenia affects more than 21 million people worldwide and is characterized by a disorder of thought and perception, emotions, language and behavior, among others.
