Bayern Munich has inflicted a penalty on Frank Ribery for his angry comments on social media earlier this week, at a time when disdain is growing for the Frenchman's response on Monday.

Ribery, 35, who used vulgar language after visiting a restaurant in Dubai, heard a political comment from German politicians.

Ribery posted a video showing him preparing to eat a big slice of meat. But many comments on the section have criticized the player, especially from Bayern Munich fans who are struggling to buy tickets for the matches.

The former French international, who has been involved in many off-road events during his career, has reacted with a vicious verbal attack against his critics rarely used by professional athletes.

Bavarian Interior Minister Joachim Hermann told Bild newspaper: "Ribery has the right to choose what he eats, but he misinterprets his words."

"For a celebrity, there must be a model."

Bayern Munich imposed Sunday an undisclosed fine. The club said Ribery was participating in an advertising campaign for Chef Shahir's restaurant during his Dubai vacation.

"Frank has used words that can not be accepted by Bayern Munich and Frank should not be used as a club player," said Hbadan Salih Hamedic, club football director.

"I spoke at length to Frank yesterday and told him that he would be fined, and he said he would accept this punishment."
