Buenos Aires- MADRID (Reuters) – The River Plate will travel to Madrid on Wednesday for the return leg of the Copa Libertadores Cup final against Boca Juniors, despite their earlier opposition to fleeing Argentina.
River Plate said in a statement that his team would travel to Spain "Wednesday on a charter flight from the airport of Isiza" on the outskirts of Buenos Aires. The return match was scheduled for Nov. 24 at the Monumental Stadium in River, but was postponed after fans attacked the Boca bus before arriving at the stadium.
The Continental Confederation decided to postpone the match until a later date on the same evening before postponing it for the next day. A few hours before the new date, Conmipol postponed the match until further notice.
After a meeting with club officials on Tuesday, the Confederation confirmed the transfer of the match out of Argentina and set a date on December 9 at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium of the Real Madrid club in the Spanish capital.
However, River, who drew 2-2 at the latter's stadium, expressed its objection last weekend to the move to Madrid, about 10,000 km from the Argentine capital, saying the move is in contradiction with the nature of the continental competition and hurt supporters who bought tickets to promote the team at home.
Boca has not yet been officially announced when he will leave for Spain. Boca had asked the Continental Union to apply to River penalties that would be considered the first winner without a return match, on the basis of the elements contained in the systems of "Conmipol" note the imposition of such a penalty in similar cases. The continental union has not responded however: River has been punished with two home matches without a hearing and fined $ 400,000.
