Inter missed an opportunity to qualify for Napoli and divide the points in second place, before Napoli played against Atlanta on Monday.
Keita Baldi opened the scoring for the next Milan squad, then shot Roma with a powerful shot from Gingiz Onder at the start of the second half. A quarter hour later, Mauro Icardi gave a header after a corner and Roma was given a penalty for Marcelo Prozovic and Alexander Kolarov.
Inter are 11 points behind Juventus ahead of Friday's game in Turin.
