FIFA Secretary General Fatima Samura has recommended increasing the number of women participating in the World Cup finals from 24 to 32.
Samura invited the board of directors of VIVA in a letter to the Agence France-Presse to "quickly approve the decision to extend the World Cup", given that the next meeting of the Board, the world football government, is scheduled for October 23 in Shanghai.
"FIFA is sure that the World Cup with 32 teams will give a very competitive tournament."
On July 5, FIFA President Gianni Infantino, proposed a five-point plan to support the expansion of women's football, two days before the final of the Women's World Cup final edition in La France.
One of those five points was to increase the number of teams participating in the World Cup from 24 to 32 from 2023, as was done at the World Cup, from 32 to 48 elected on 2026.

Candidates for the 2023 World Cup are: South Africa, Australia, Brazil, Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Japan, South Korea (with possible joint organization with North Korea) and New Zealand.
