LONDON (AP) – Winger Leroy Sane will be operated next week with a cruciate ligament in his right knee, the Premier League champion said Thursday.
The 23-year-old German international, linked to a move to Bayern this summer, is injured in the win over Liverpool at the Community Shield Cup and faces a long absence.
"Manchester City can confirm that Leroy Sani had a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee," City said in a statement posted on his website.
"He pbaded tests during the week and a medical specialist went to Manchester for further tests to determine the injury."
"Leroy will undergo surgery next week, City will give him the support and guidance he needs, and everyone wishes him a speedy recovery."
City starts his title defense against West Ham United on Saturday.
