WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Forbes magazine has named tennis star Serena Williams among the highest paid sports in the world in 2019.
Serena, who won 23 world titles, earned $ 29.2 million in the 12 months to June 1, including $ 4.2 million in prizes, the magazine said.
Naomi Osaka, who distinguished herself after defeating Serena in the Flushing Meadows final, was second at $ 24.3 million and Germany's Angelique Kerber at $ 11.8 million against Simona Halep of Romania in fourth place at Wimbledon last month.
The study was based on financial rewards, salaries, sponsorship companies and marketing contracts for the specified period.
