Real Madrid coach Santiago Solari has declared his silence on the doping scandal that erupted last week against Spaniard Sergio Ramos. The latter said: "This information is not true, Ramos is a frank man."

"We must all protect him from this type of press," the coach told the media Monday night. "Ramos is a player who oversees the Spanish sport in general. The journalist has to look for the truth and not publish false information."

He said: "I respect your profession, but when such things happen, the credibility of the press falls to ruin, I think we should all think in this direction."

Newspaper leaks revealed that the Real Madrid captain had failed a doping test he had suffered after the 2017 UEFA Champions League final against Juventus.

According to a report by the German magazine Der Spiegel, Ramos went beyond the rules of doping on more than one occasion, pointing out that the Ramos test in the final of the Champions League had yielded positive results for a stimulant and that the doctor of the Real Madrid had admitted.

The Ramos test tested positive for Dixa Methazone, an anti-inflammatory, which is only prohibited if the test committee is not informed of its use.

The report states that the European Union has accepted "apologies" and an explanation of the club, without imposing a penalty on the champions of Europe.
