WASHINGTON: A spacecraft created by space company SpaceX will be launched Saturday for a test flight to the International Space Station.

The spacecraft must be launched on a Falcon 9 rocket from the Kennedy Space Center of NASA's American Space Agency in Florida.

The SpaceX capsule should be launched unmanned until it joins the International Space Station around 060 hrs Sunday.

This will be the first time that a space rocket and a spaceship are launched commercially from the United States.

The launch was planned in conjunction with NASA's Commercial Crew program, which collaborates with many companies in the US space sector to develop human space flight systems. This will be the first flight test of the unmanned program.

The program aims to end the dependence of US astronauts on the Russian space program to reach the International Space Station.

NASA said the flight, which will begin Saturday, will provide data on the Falcon 9, the Dragon SpaceX-Crew, ground systems, docking and landing.
