This year's Nobel laureates of medicine predicted that significant progress will be made in the treatment of cancer over the next few decades, while eliminating the difficulty of completely eliminating the disease.
James Allison and Japan's Tasco Hongo announced the announcement at a press conference Thursday before winning the $ 999,000 Nobel Prize.
The Nobel Committee announced the winners of the award in October for their work in immunotherapy – activating the body's natural defense system against tumors.
"The world will not be completely free of cancer," said Allison, citing the evolution of some cancers, including skin cancer.
Hongo predicted that immunotherapy would eventually be used against most cancers, mainly in combination with radiotherapy or chemotherapy.
