The new Syrian coach, Ibrahim Fajr, said that the chance to qualify for the second round of the Asian Cup (UAE 2019) remained despite the difficulty of the match against Australia.

Fajr Ibrahim took the lead of the Syrian team in replacement of German Bernd Stange, sacked after a 2-0 defeat to Jordan.
The Syrian team started their 17th Asian Cup with a disappointing draw against their Palestinian counterpart and fell to Jordan with two unanswered goals. Jordan leads the standings with 6 points and quickly qualifies for the round of 16, followed by defending champion Australia in the standings with three points.
