Two people were killed and 16 people injured, including eight athletes competing at the World Swimming Championships, after the collapse of an indoor balcony at a nightclub in Gwangju, South Korea, announced Saturday the local police.
The clubhouse terrace, near the athletes 'village, turned into rubble after collapsing under the weight of the night club' s leaders and falling from a height of five meters. The public has fled to the exit.
"An internal honor in a nightclub in Gwangju has collapsed, causing two deaths," said Song Ji-Jo, Gwangju police.
"Sixteen people, including ten foreigners, were injured, including eight athletes participating in the tournament," he said.
The eight injured athletes are three Americans, a New Zealander, a Dutchman, a Brazilian and an Italian.
Song said the two dead Koreans have nothing to do with the World Cup.
