Researchers identified the Lomonosov Crater 75 km crater as the site of the asteroid collision, giving rise to unique features for an area known as Thumbnail Terrain.
Researchers at the French National Center for Scientific Research have achieved these results by investigating 10 archaeological digs located north of the area called Arabia Terra, in the study published in the Journal of Planetary Geophysical Research.
Scientists suspect that the tsunami played a major role in shaping the landscape, supported by unusual sediments. The team examined the excavation on the basis of its diameter, location and characteristics, which could correspond to the colossal tsunami.
