The former Greek international group, John Vant Schepp, has been named new coach for a two-and-a-half year contract, the Greek Football Federation announced on Wednesday.
Van Chipp, 55, born in Canada, will succeed national coach Angelos Anastasadis, sacked eight months after taking office, winning seven games and only two.
Van Schip defended Ajax Amsterdam from 1981 to 1992 and played for Genoa between 1992 and 1996. He also wore a jersey of the Dutch national team in 41 international matches, scoring two goals between 1986 and 1995.
After retiring from football, he worked in the Netherlands and played for clubs such as Zwolle (2017-2018), Ajax (2009) and Totti (2001-2002). He also oversaw the cities of Melbourne and Guadalajara, and was the badistant coach of the Dutch national team from 2004 to 2008.
Anastasidis, who was named coach of Greece in 2004 at the expense of Portugal, host country, was sacked for his bad European qualifying campaign for the European Cup in 2020. He led the team to a 2-1 victory over Liechtenstein. 0 in the first stage, before drawing 2-2 against Bosnia and Herzegovina, losing to Italy 0-3 and Armenia 2-3, where he ranks fourth in the group T with 4 points.
