Uruguayan coach Martin Lasarte, the Egyptian coach of Al Ahly, has been listed on the list of candidates of his former club, the Universidad de Chile, who are fighting for relegation.

According to the Chilean program "24horas", Universidad plans to recruit a new technical director to replace his current coach, Alfredo Arias, who should be sacked. The club management sent six candidates to badign this task to one of them, as well as the presence of the current coach of Al Ahly and his former team.

Martin Lbadarte, Giorgio Piether, Gerardo Belloso, Benat San Jose, Nicolas Cordova and Ariel Hulan are among the candidates for the position.

The dismissal of current coach Alfredo Arias is the first step to correct the club's course and save him from relegation by hiring a new manager.

Gerardo Belloso and Martin Lasarte are the favorite names of fans because of their previous results with the team, where they face the specter of relegation after pbading the 16 rounds of the Chilean league, with 15 places (penultimate ) with 14 points.

From 2014 to 2015, Lasarte coached the University of Chile and was crowned champion of the Chilean League, Chile Cup and Chile Super Cup.

Lbadarte, 58, took over Al Ahli in December after the dismissal of former French Patrice Carteron and his contract with the Château Rouge until the end of next season.

The Uruguayan coach made 29 appearances for Al Ahly, winning 22 wins, 3 draws and 4 losses, and leading the team to Egypt's title title last season.

A large number of Al-Ahli fans on social media have requested the dismissal of Lasarti and the signing of a new coach from next season, despite his coronation in the league, in light of "Red Castle" supporters for the title of the African Champions League, which the Uruguayan coach has failed to reap.

Al-Ahly lost the continental championship twice in 2017 and 2018 respectively in the hands of Wydad Morocco and Tunisian Esperance, while the last defeat in the quarter-finals was beaten 1-5 by South African Sundowns in the return match.
