Mubasher: WASHINGTON (Reuters) – US President Donald Trump's economic adviser dismissed a big deal with China, but at the same time eased expectations of tough trade barriers between the world's two largest economies next week.

"I do not expect a big deal," Kudlow said in a comment on Friday.

Kudlo thinks that US negotiators will return to the negotiating stage, hoping to return to the point where negotiations would have ended in May.

The White House's economic adviser said the two sides must tackle key structural issues such as intellectual property theft and forced technology transfer.

A US trade delegation is due to visit China next Monday to negotiate with the Chinese authorities.

The round would be the first after US President Donald Trump and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping agreed at the G20 summit last month to revive the stalled talks since May.

Kudlo said that 90 percent of the deal was finalized before negotiations were blocked two months ago.

The economic advisor praised second-quarter GDP growth figures better than expected, describing the US consumer as the champion of the global economy.

The US economy grew 2.1% in June compared with June, compared to 3.1% in the first three months of the year, according to official data.
