Mubasher: Volvo Motor Co. has decided to call 507,000 cars worldwide because of a fault in the engine component likely to cause a fire.

"Stefan Alfstrom," a spokesman for the Swedish manufacturer Geely Holding Group, said on Monday that his investigations had concluded that, in very rare cases, a plastic component of the engine could melt.

"In the worst case, a fire could occur," he said, citing Bloomberg.

In response to a question about the details of the potential financial impact, he said: "We do not comment on the costs."

"The company is keen to repair the defect of the cars as soon as possible and that its customers do not bear any cost related to the treatment of this defect.

Called cars were produced between 2014 and 2019 and include 9 models, according to a Volvo statement.

According to Volvo's results, Volvo achieved record sales in the first six months of this year after selling 340,286,000 cars, up 7.3% year-on-year.
