Wall Street opens higher on positive Chinese data and appreciation of the yuan

(Reuters) – US stocks opened higher on Thursday, while better-than-expected Chinese trade data and a stable yuan have somewhat appeased investors troubled by escalating trade tensions and signs of recession.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average <.DJI> rose 79.45 points, or 0.31%, to 2,606.52.

The Standard & Poor's Index 500 <.SPX> rose 12.23 points, or 0.42%, to 2,896.21. The Nasdaq composite index <.IXIC> rose 58.76 points, or 0.75%, to 7,921.59.
