LONDON (Reuters) – Arsenal and Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck have signed a free transfer, the Premier League club said on Wednesday.
Welbeck, 28, has been without a club since the end of last season's Premier League after Arsenal decided to abandon him following repeated injuries, the latest being his broken ankle in November.
"We are delighted to confirm the signing of British international Danny Welbeck in a free transfer," said Watford in a statement released on Wednesday.
Welbeck, who has made 42 appearances for England, has defended Arsenal since 2014 against Manchester United, winning the England Cup in 2015 and 2017 and the Community Shield (2017) led by the former French Arsène Wenger.
Welbeck played a total of 206 Premier League games and scored 42 goals in his defense of Sunderland, United and Arsenal.
