Scientists at the University of Birmingham concluded to the presence of tasty and unhealthy products all over the world, when they were trying to avoid weight loss.
A new study has found that thinking about food in any way, even negatively, can make you more prone to eating too much.
People have trouble remembering or thinking about something else when they are distracted by food pictures, where they feel surrounded by an irresistible circle of delicious foods, a reported Russia Today.
The researchers asked 90 volunteers to remember an image of food, such as a pizza, and then locate a circle on the screen, while revealing another shape to distract them.
For some experiments, an image of the food stored in memory is placed next to the circle. In other cases, they have been developed with the form used to deflect attention.
About half of the volunteers were obese, while others had a healthy weight. The experiment was repeated asking participants to remember an image of a non-food component, such as a key.
The researchers, led by Dr. Susan Higgs, found that all participants had trouble locating the circuit during the task, using food images. The task became more difficult when the image of the food was added to the image of the dispersion.
The findings were published in the International Journal of Obesity. The effect was more marked among overweight participants. All participants were evaluated after a year of study conducted by the British Psychological Association.
It turned out that those who were struggling to accomplish this task were more likely to increase their body mbad index.
"We suggest that thinking about food increases the risk of overeating," said Higgs. "The person is more sensitive to the presence of food in the environment," she said.
"Solving puzzles or playing games can help distract attention from food," she said.
