LeBron James injury update: Lakers star ruled out for remainder of game against Hawks after twisting his ankle

Turns out, Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James isn’t indestructible after all. In the Los Angeles game with the Atlanta Hawks on Saturday afternoon, James was forced out of the game and returned to the locker room after twisting his ankle in the second quarter. While trying to secure a loose ball, Hawks forward Solomon Hill fell on James’ right ankle and James fell to the ground in pain.

James didn’t retire from the game right away. In fact, he stayed in the contest and knocked down a 3 point pointer from the corner before leaving and returning to the locker room. The Lakers star is expected to undergo an MRI to determine the severity of the injury, according to ESPN. You can see the events unfold below:

Shortly after James left the contest, it was announced that he will not be returning to the game. The initial diagnosis is a right ankle injury. Obviously, the Lakers are hoping the injury isn’t too serious, as they’re already without All-Star forward Anthony Davis due to calf strain in his right leg.

Even if the injury is not very serious, there is always a chance that James will miss more action, as the Lakers will obviously want to be extremely careful with their top player. The most important thing for Los Angeles is that James is in good health for the playoffs. The Lakers will likely provide an update on James’ status for their next round of games – against the Suns on Sunday, the Pelicans on Tuesday and the 76ers on Thursday – in the near future.
