Some suggest you never meet your idols, but Los Angeles Lakers forward and “Space Jam: A New Legacy” star LeBron James remains the exception to a few rules.
At the premiere of his new movie on Tuesday, James met YouTube personality Mark Phillips, who has made his mark with his NBA knockoffs and other online entertainment. The league’s four-time MVP couldn’t contain his laughter during both presentations.
Phillips, who is the founder and face of YouTube channel RDCworld1, seemed blown away by James’ approval for him and his team to continue their work.
If you’re not familiar, in January, when the Brooklyn Nets acquired three-time scoring champion James Harden, Phillips interpreted James’ reaction to Harden joining two-time Finals MVP Kevin Durant and 2016 champion Kyrie Irving for create the most recent Big in the NBA. Three.
Less than three months earlier, James, who turned 36 last December, became the second MVP in the Finals en route to the Lakers’ 17th league title, a tied record. Only Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (37 in 1985) won the award at an older age.

“But the crazy thing about LeBron is that we make videos involving him… so when he did it was like I didn’t think it was real,” Phillips said. at the time. “We were actually filming a YouTube video and we didn’t know he tweeted it. My nephew told me FaceTime and I was in shock.
“Immediately he was like, ‘You did it, you did it’, and we couldn’t believe it at all, but we were screaming for joy and we all gathered around a phone with the highest level of excitement. “

If the meeting of James and Phillips at the premiere of “Space Jam” illustrates anything, it’s that the latter is already well ahead of creating a new legacy of its own.
