Leclerc: Ferrari rivals make sandbags

Mercedes and Red Bull have not threatened the top rankings for the first three days of the first test, although Mercedes increased its performance on Thursday.

Leclerc helped Ferrari to pass the first two days of the test but, after having slightly slowed, Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas, the two Mercedes drivers of the last day, think that his rivals are still reluctant.

"The performance does not make sense for the moment because it is testing, it does not grow and we do not, either," he said.

"We do not know how much the others are doing sandbags, so we'll see in the first race.

"The essential for this test is to make the program of the day and that's what we do, so we are happy."

Leclerc's teammate, Sebastian Vettel, said earlier this week that Ferrari had almost reached "perfection" with its quick debut in the trials.

This strong start to the match also led Valtteri Bottas of Mercedes to declare that Ferrari was ahead of the time.

"As Seb said, it does not look like a new car," said Leclerc. "It's like it's already a well established car.

"We have to keep pushing, the other teams are carrying sandbags, we have to see how good they are, but we are quite happy with the car at the moment."

Vettel's comments on Ferrari's SF90 included the claim that it gave him the confidence to do what he wanted on the track.

Leclerc acknowledged that he was "easy enough to drive".

"I already feel very comfortable with the car," he said. "I still have a lot of things to do but I already feel very good."
