Leclerc was promoted to Ferrari after one season with Sauber, but his team manager, Mattia Binotto, made it clear that priority would be given to Vettel at the start of the season, if the situation warranted it.

"In any team, there must be a number one and a number two in a 50-50 situation," said Leclerc. "But also on my side, it is my duty to change things.

In pre-season testing, Binotto said Leclerc was free to race at Vettel, but Ferrari would act if there was an "ambiguous" situation, as she is counting on Vettel to lead the title race.
This was mainly interpreted as a relocation of Leclerc to give Vettel a position, but could also mean that Vettel has priority over upgraded parts.
Leclerc stated that he would know only the situation of the "50/50" to which he referred in the present moment. Vettel added that it was "useless" to make assumptions.
"It's very clear, and Mattia was also very clear: we are free to fight each other," Vettel said.
"Charles will do his best to help himself and the team, and it's the same for me.
"We are racing for Ferrari and that means we are trying to bring Ferrari back to what we have been trying to do for a few years now.
"That's the main priority, it's a very long season and I think it's a bit useless for the moment to start reporting some scenarios."
Leclerc wants to use his time alongside Vettel to learn from his very experienced teammate and has already recognized Vettel's experience feedback as an area to study.
In testing, he also said during the tests that knowing the team so well was a benefit, but that a team building weekend had helped him to learn more. on the new members of his team.
"I spent several weeks at Ferrari[‘s Maranello factory] to try to get to know the team better and also organized a little team building weekend just before coming here, which was very useful for experiencing new faces, "said Leclerc.
"I feel really more mature than last year. I learned a lot last year, it was a great season and I will learn a lot more.
"But I feel more ready than last year."
