Katie Ledecky ended her 2020 Olympic campaign on a high note on Saturday morning in Tokyo, winning gold in her favorite event, the women’s 800 freestyle.

At the end of the Olympics which saw Ledecky perform from top to bottom by his high standards, the question immediately arose: Ithat’s it ?

In a post-race interview with NBC, Ledecky quickly dismissed any thoughts of retirement, saying he had at least three years left in his competitive swimming career, if not more.

“Oh, it wasn’t my last swim. I’m going at least until ’24, maybe ’28, ”said Ledecky, who will be 27 when the 2024 Games start in Paris and 31 when LA 2028 rolls out. “We will see.”

At just 24, a Ledecky retirement announcement would have frankly come as a shock, with her still at the top of her game in the middle distance events.

The former Stanford Cardinal swam his best time since 2016 winning silver behind the Australian Ariarne Titmus in the 400 freestyle, and she got the better of her best time from the flat start, anchoring the relay in the women’s 800 freestyle in 1: 53.7.

And while his individual times in the 800 and 1500 were a far cry from his best, with a poor performance in the 200 Final, Ledecky is still a force in the sport and has a lot more to rewrite the history books to do.

In fact, she did a part of that with her victory in the 800, becoming the third woman to win the same event at three consecutive Olympics and the 37th athlete in Olympic history to win 10 medals.
