Legendary MLB manager Tommy Lasorda, 93, rushed to intensive care and ‘in serious condition’

Former MLB manager Tommy Lasorda, 93, is in hospital in serious condition, his former team have confirmed.
Lasorda, the longest-serving Hall of Fame alive, is best known for his two decades at the helm of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The team tweeted on Sunday morning: ‘Los Angeles Dodgers Hall of Fame great Tommy Lasorda has been hospitalized in Orange County.

Lasorda, 93, has been admitted and is in intensive care, resting comfortably.
“The family appreciates each other’s thoughts and prayers; however, they ask for their privacy at this time.
TMZ, who first reported the news, said he was “ in serious condition ” with heart problems. They said his condition was unrelated to COVID.
Lasorda is a former pitcher, coach and manager who led the Dodgers from 1976 to 1996.
He won two World Series titles and was NL Manager of the Year in 1983 and 1988.
Lasorda also led the US team that won gold at the 2000 Olympics, held in Sydney.

Loved for his colorful personality and the outspoken views of the players, Lasorda was born in Norristown, Pennsylvania in 1927.
He signed with the Philadelphia Phillies in 1945, but his career was cut short by war.
Lasorda returned to the game in 1948 and made his major league debut on August 5, 1954 for the Brooklyn Dodgers.
He was on the winning side of the 1955 World Series, and then in 1956 he transferred to the Kansas City Athletics.
He was traded to the New York Yankees, then the Denver Bears, before returning to the Dodgers.

His playing career ended in 1960, and Lasorda went on to coach and manage teams.
As a Boy Scout, he became something of a local celebrity in the Dominican Republic due to his many visits in search of young baseball talent.
In September 1976, he became manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers – a position he held for 20 years.
Upon his retirement in 1996, he was named vice-president of the Dodgers: a stadium restaurant was named after him in 2014.
