Lego has a new Porsche 911 model kit with a twist, the company announced on Thursday. Manufacturers will be able to choose to build a 911 Turbo or an open-top 911 Targa.
The 1,458-piece kit will come with two sets of steering, allowing the buyer to decide whether the finished model will be Porsche’s iconic open-top, glass-roofed cruiser or the company’s fixed-roof supercar. And even though both models use the same parts, that doesn’t mean they’ll be too similar. From the exit:
Several features unique to the 911 Turbo and 911 Targa variants in the set ensure that they are just as characteristic but distinct when built. The Lego Porsche 911 Turbo sports a distinctive Turbo emblem, a wide rear axle, a turbocharger and an intercooler, denoting its blazing performance. Its athletic look is complemented by an integrated rear spoiler.
Meanwhile, the roof of the Lego Porsche 911 Targa is fully removable and can be stowed under the hood of the car. The iconic Targa Bar completes the look, complete with Targa badges and a wraparound brick rear window.
Both cars receive a complete interior with 2 + 2 front seats, reclining front seats, a gear lever, handbrake and functional steering.
“As we were designing the car, the hardest decision was whether we were going to build the Turbo or the Targa variant of the car,” said Mike Psiaki, Lego Group design master. “It was such a difficult call that we designed the possibility of building the Lego Porsche 911 Turbo and Targa from one set. Without a doubt, 911 fans around the world who have long admired these cars will love it. the opportunity to build both versions.
Lego says members of its VIP loyalty program will be able to purchase the kit, priced at $ 149.99, through its website starting February 16, 2021. Very first-time buyers will also receive a “Lego Porsche Owners Pack” with their purchase, which includes a Certificate of Ownership, an official Lego Porsche card wallet and a set of four fine art prints based on vintage Porsche 911 advertisements. The kit will be available to everyone on Lego.com and in Lego stores from March 1.
