Lenny Kravitz shares moving tribute to late godmother Cicely Tyson: ‘She’s lived a remarkable life

Emmy and Tony-winning actress Cicely Tyson died Thursday at the age of 96.

A day later, Lenny Kravitz shared an emotional tribute to his late godmother on Instagram which included a number of photos of the couple sharing hugs over the years.

“With inimitable style and grace, my dear godmother Miss Cicely Tyson made her grand exit to the skies. She lived a remarkable life until the last moment, ” the 56-year-old Let Love Rule singer began in his long legend.

He added: “ A true trailblazer, who showed her heart and soul so that we could witness the spirit of the characters she so brilliantly portrayed, who continue to move and inspire generations.

The rocker went on to explain how Tyson is an example of “ the beauty of Black ” and the immense love they shared.

“Since I became aware, I have known Godmother. She and my mother were kindred spirits. Sisters. And after the death of my mother, the role of my godmother in my life has grown, ”he continued.

Kravitz also spoke about his connection to Tyson; holidays spent together; phone calls lasting several hours; and visits him when he lived in Paris.

“I constantly felt his spirit on me. She always gave me unconditional support, ”he wrote.

“ She came to my shows, came for vacations, met me for dinners, stayed with me in Paris when I first moved there, and never let me too far from his view. Our phone calls sometimes lasted for hours.

Turns out, Kravitz had just spoken to his godmother a few nights before she passed away and talked about a myriad of topics.

“She had just sent me her book which was on my bedside table where it will stay. She did it all, wrote the book, then God called her. I hear godmother say “ok, now you can read about this, I’m coming home”. Rest in peace, godmother. You did everything exquisitely, he concluded.

Kravitz’s daughter, actress Zoe Kravitz, also shared sweet feelings in honor of Tyson following his passing.

‘Rest well in power. thank you for being such a bright light and inspiration in my life, ” the Mad Max: Fury Road star said captioned a photo of Tyson when she was younger.

“I know you and Grandma Roxie are together now laughing.

Tyson had just released his memoir – Just As I Am – on Tuesday, two days before his death, and has since risen to the top of Amazon’s bestseller list.
