Leon Edwards: Jorge Masvidal will never be UFC champion, just another ‘easy payday’ for Kamaru Usman

A championship rematch between current Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) welterweight champion Kamaru Usman and “BMF” defending champion Jorge Masvidal seems to be gaining a lot of ground.

After Usman knocked out Gilbert Burns at UFC 258 (see), “The Nigerian Nightmare” called for a fight in an attempt to silence a rather talkative “Gamebred” once and for all. Understandably, Masvidal didn’t turn down the challenge and was quick to accept the chance for revenge after failing against the champion at UFC 251 last July.

The man who seems to be left out in the mix, however, doesn’t think the fight will be any different. Indeed, Leon Edwards says the fight is nothing more than another easy payday for Usman because Masvidal just doesn’t have what it takes to thrive in world title fights.

“I think Usman beats him 10 times out of 10. I just don’t think Masvidal is a championship fighter. I think he’s a good fighter, a good contender, but he’s never going to be a UFC champion, ”Edwards said in a recent interview with ESPN.

“Usman is probably thinking about the money, isn’t he?” Easy work for a high salary. “

Discussions have surfaced about the possibility of Usman and Masvidal training The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) before they launch a second time. The Masvidal manager recently tweeted that their side of the matter was done, and Usman followed by post a photo whether he and Dana White are getting ready or sitting down.

As for Edwards, he’s been trying to score a fight against Masvidal for quite some time now after the two clashed backstage a few years ago which left ‘Rocky’ bloody and angry. It was recently shut down by Colby Covington, a man the UFC matchmakers had in mind to welcome Edwards back to the Octagon after Khamzat Chimaev withdrew from their fight a second time.

It’s been a year and a half since Edwards’ last competition and his patience is running out with all of the contenders – Nate Diaz included – uninterested in fighting him.
