Leonardo DiCaprio and Camila Morrone loaded with Italian in the North End

Leonardo DiCaprio has largely kept a low profile since arriving in Boston to film the Adam McKay Netflix comedy “Don’t Look Up.” But DiCaprio and his girlfriend Camila Morrone were briefly in the public eye on New Years Eve when they visited the North End to pick up ingredients for a hearty Italian feast.

DiCaprio, Morrone and another woman visited Table Mercato on Thursday afternoon, loading up on pasta, sauces, homemade chips, fig jam and other items from owner Jen Royle’s Italian boutique. Royle, who runs Table Mercato and the adjoining Italian restaurant Table, said DiCaprio was one of the first customers to ever need a basket to carry all of her items, which she said was for a meal at the House.

“They’re staying, no one is going to dinner on New Years Eve,” Royle told Boston.com Saturday afternoon. “They probably just wanted to stock up on things, close the blinds and cook.”

Royle said she was busy working in the store’s basement when DiCaprio and Morrone arrived, but said store employees and customers recognized the actor.

“People at the store said he just had the bluest eyes they had ever seen,” Royle said. “You can’t take him for someone else, even with the mask on.

Since the production of “Don’t Look Up” launched in late November, DiCaprio and other cast members have toured all over Massachusetts, including on December 1 in South Station, when he and his co-star starred. Jennifer Lawrence filmed scenes on an Acela Train.

“Don’t Look Up” was also filmed at the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, Wheaton College, Norton, Salisbury Beach, the DCU Center in Worcester, Battleship Cove in Fall River and Union Point in Weymouth. Filming is expected to continue at least until mid-February.

In the film, Lawrence and DiCaprio play a pair of astronomers who discover that an asteroid is on a collision course with Earth. When they begin to speak publicly about the impending danger, they discover that no one will take their terrible warnings of impending disaster seriously.

With the duo, “Don’t Look Up” stars Cate Blanchett (“Carol”), Rob Morgan (“Mudbound”), Meryl Streep (“The Iron Lady”), Jonah Hill (“The Wolf of Wall Street” ), Himesh Patel (“Yesterday”), Timothée Chalamet (“Little Women”), Matthew Perry (“Friends”) Tomer Sisley (“We are the Millers”), singer Ariana Grande and rapper Kid Cudi.
