The Mets are 8-4 to start the 2019 season although they did it behind their attack and not their pitcher as many thought.
While many thought the offense had been improved with the addition of Wilson Ramos, Robinson Cano, Jed Lowrie (in good health) and possibly full seasons of Pete Alonso and Jeff McNeilI do not think many thought it would be the strength of Mets 2019.
Until here, it certainly has been.
The Mets set a new franchise record with 75 points over the first 12 games, beating the 1996 club by one point. They averaged 6.25 points per game under the new coach Chile Davis. This ranks fifth in the majors and fourth in the National League.
Of course, the catalyst was the rookie hitter Pete Alonso and his 257 OPS + (second in the MLB behind Mike Trout"S 313). He already has 12 additional base hits (six doubles, six homers), which is a record in a major league thanks to the players' first 12 games. His 1.1 bWAR is tied for fifth place in baseball.
Michael Conforto he was not himself displaying 1,085 OPS over 55 appearances on the plate. The 26-year-old has played seven multiple games this season, tied with Alonso and nine others for the major league.
Jeff McNeil (0.921 OPS), J.D. Davis (0.895 OPS), Wilson Ramos (0.80 OPS), and Amed Rosario (.788) will all start well in 2019 as well.
As a team, the Mets have a score of 114 wRC +, which ties them to the Cubs for the second highest rank in the National League. This despite the removal of 26.1% of time, the second largest in NL. Their .336 BABIP is the highest of the majors, can they continue?
