Venom: let there be carnage director Andy Serkis thinks if a character’s death is permanent. * Spoilers for the movie to follow * Sadly, fans likely learned that Carnage was defeated by the end of the movie. But, as most comic book readers would quickly tell you, death is a bit of a revolving door. Brandon Davis of Comicbook.com spoke to the filmmaker in an interview on Wednesday’s episode of the Phase Zero podcast. For Serkis, he hopes this won’t be the end of the line for Carnage, but sometimes there are other plans in store for Venom as he travels through the Sony universe and maybe more. One thing is for sure, it won’t be clear for a little while.
BD: Speaking of bringing Carnage to life, we’re killing it too, you know what I mean? Funny the moment Venom says what he said… I’ll get to that line next, but I want to hear the decision to kill Cletus and Carnage first. As I know these decisions cannot be easy to make.
Serkis had a contemplative response, “They can’t … No, especially no when you have someone as titanic as Woody Harrelson playing a titanic character like Carnage. It’s not easy. I mean, the point is, I always like to think that there might just be this little piece of symbiote that hasn’t quite been devoured by Venom that might be lying around in a baptismal font in the church, that’s just some kind of swimming that somehow might come back to life. I always say, no one ever dies, really. “
In some recent comments to ScreenRant, the director also touched on some crazy possibilities for future enemies of this franchise. Everyone wants Spider-Man, but there are real options on the table.
“… I know everyone desperately wants Venom to meet Spider-Man. I know that. But I think there is some real mileage in some of the other villains that reside in Ravencroft. There is a So fertile ground to discover there. It would be the sandbox, I would be really interested in playing. Who is hiding in there that could explode? “
