Letters, packages, and prescriptions all delayed as USPS struggles after holiday season

The holiday season is almost over, but that doesn’t mean the delays in packages delivered by the U.S. Postal Service are over.

“This is absurd,” Melissa Walker told 13WHAM-TV. “It’s just not correct.” His frustration has boiled over as traditional mail as well as packages remain tangled in a web of shipping and mail delays that approach historic levels.

Carriers will be making New Years deliveries, which is a change. Throughout the holiday season, disgruntled customers have expressed frustration with packages that never arrive, or at least days or weeks later than expected.

Throughout the holiday season, we’ve heard about lost or missing packages, and even some that have arrived more than a month late. But what went unreported for the most part were the other items that took weeks or never reached their destination.

Earlier in the fall, a report found that there were “significant” and “increasing” delays in mail delivery of prescription drugs under the tenure of Postmaster General Louis DeJoy. In it, the nation’s largest pharmacies reported experiencing delivery delays of 18-34%, which translates to an additional 3-4 days.

It’s unclear what the answer is, but some local residents just want to see the USPS receive the proper support from Congress so it can operate at full capacity.
