Someone who doesn’t expect LeVar Burton to step in as “Jeopardy!” The host following the game show’s most recent revamp is Burton himself.

Appearing on “The Daily Show With Trevor Noah” this week, Burton said he had given up on becoming the permanent host of “Jeopardy!” a position that he once described like his “dream job”.

I mean, I wanted the job, but when I didn’t get it, it was like, ‘Well, okay, what’s next?’ “

Burton was among several stars for the guest host “Jeopardy!” this summer as producers searched for a replacement for Alex Trebek, who died last year. While Burton’s weeklong stint on the show in July drew support from viewers, the job ultimately went to Mike Richards.

This appointment was short-lived, however. In August, “Jeopardy! The producers confirmed that Richards had resigned amid a host of controversies, including lawsuits for discrimination from his time as executive producer of “The Price Is Right” and a history of sexist remarks made on his podcast.

This week it was announced that Mayim Bialik and Ken Jennings will serve as “Jeopardy!” hosts until the end of the year.

Elsewhere in his interview with Noah, Burton expressed his gratitude for the new opportunities that presented themselves to him after missing the gig. Although he lacked details, he suggested to fans of his “Jeopardy!” appearances would appreciate his future plans.

“They went in a different direction with their show, which is their right,” he said. “Now I’m like, ‘Well, that makes sense. Let me see what I can do. ‘ So we’re trying to figure out what would be the right game show for LeVar Burton. “
