LOS ANGELES – LeVar Burton withdraws his quest to become the next “Jeopardy!” host.

During “The Daily Show With Trevor Noah”, Burton explained why he was no longer interested in the concert, which is now shared by Mayim Bialik and Ken Jennings after the dismissal of former executive producer Mike Richards.

“What’s crazy is that when you set your sights on something… they say to be careful what you wish for, because what I found out was that it wasn’t the thing you wanted. I wanted after all, ”Burton told Trevor Noah. Thursday night. “What I wanted was to compete. I mean, I wanted the job, okay, but when I didn’t get it, it was like, ‘Well, okay , What is the next step ?'”

Burton added: “The opportunities that presented themselves to me because I didn’t get this job I couldn’t have imagined. If you had given me a pen and paper and told me : “Well, then what do you really want to look like? ‘ If it didn’t include “Jeopardy!” I wouldn’t have been so generous to myself. “

As the quiz show rotated between guest hosts after Alex Trebek’s death, Burton campaigned for the long-term position, quickly becoming a fan favorite.

“I made it publically known that I wanted it for myself, that it made sense to me, and they were all about it,” Burton said. “It meant as much to them as it meant to me. And, so, they wanted it for me as much as I wanted it.”

Burton, who hosted “Jeopardy” July 26-30, also hinted at another possible TV opportunity, telling Noah, “We’re trying to figure out what the right game show would be for LeVar Burton.”
