Lexus unveils the LF-Z Electrified, a new EV concept symbolizing the future range

Lexus plans to introduce 20 new or redesigned vehicles to the world by 2025, at least half of which executives say will be fully electric or electrified hybrid models.

To symbolize the direction of its future vehicles, the luxury brand owned by Toyota Motor on Tuesday unveiled a new concept car called the LF-Z Electrified.

The fully electric vehicle features many of the company’s iconic design cues, such as the ticked headlights and the rocket grille, but with new, more modern interpretations. The interior of the vehicle features a somewhat minimalist interior design, aside from a host of driver-centric cockpit screens. Many car makers have opted for such designs, mimicking elements of electric vehicle maker Tesla.

Lexus has not published performance expectations such as range, horsepower or torque. Automakers often use concept vehicles to gauge customer interest or show the future direction of a vehicle or brand.

Lexus has been slower than other brands to launch fully electric vehicles after its parent company led automakers to develop hybrid vehicles following the success of the Toyota Prius.

This could change in the years to come. Lexus aims to offer electrified variants of all its models by 2025, with a sales ratio of electric vehicles higher than gasoline-powered vehicles.

“Electrified” can mean an all-electric vehicle such as hybrids and plug-in hybrids that combine electrification with internal combustion engines. Toyota executives declined to comment on the quantity of each of the models or the number of vehicles planned for the United States.
