LG is not one to be left behind by his South Korean rival. So, after launching the Galaxy S10 5G, LG naturally had to follow suit with its own ad on its 5G phone, in the form of the new V50 ThinQ 5G.

On the outside, the V50 5G has essentially the same chassis as last year's V40, but with a number of new components, including a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 X50 5G modem, Wi-Fi support 6 and more. a larger battery of 4000 mAh. Then LG went and slapped a bright 5G logo on the back of the phone that flashes yellow (indicating LG's partnership with Sprint for 5G service) every time you touch the screen.

However, unlike the new LG G8, the V50 5G will not have its brother's Z depth-sensing camera or a vibrant OLED Crystal display, opting instead for a more traditional pair of stereo speakers, an OLED display 6.4 inches normal and two cameras at the back (featuring a 12 MP main cam and a 16 MP wide angle cam). One of the benefits of this change is that with the V50 5G also offering two selfie cameras in front, the phone will be able to use the G8's bokeh video mode, regardless of which side of the phone you are using to shoot. And to cope with the increased heat generated by 5G modems, LG has increased the size of the V50 5G vaporization chamber cooling system by 40%.

It's a soft phone! But not really.

But the odd thing about the V50 5G can be its optional dual-screen accessory, which points to a second 6.2-inch OLED display on the side of the V50. LG says that the screen can be used to multitask and has a user interface that makes it easy to quickly move applications from one screen to another between screens. It can also be used as a controller dedicated to the game, with touch controls at the bottom screen. . The Dual Screen accessory effectively transforms the V50 into a 5G sandwich, which I suppose is a way to react against the Samsung Galaxy Fold when you do not have your own soft handset to show.

Still, although no official information on pricing or availability of the V50 5G has yet been released, LG says the phone will be available on Sprint in the first half of 2019.
